Enough

We spend our entire lives being told we're "too this" or "too that" or that we will never be "whatever enough."

Sparkling Dawn

Found this while looking at files on my ipod tonight. It was written last October, and I just never got around to finishing it or doing anything with it so I thought I'd throw it up here just for fun.

Light and Beauty

Remembering today that the key to being caught up in awe at the world around me is to never get too accustomed to it. I'm remembering to take nothing for granted, to see everything as if for the first time, to experience everything as if I knew it would be the last time.

Approaching the world that way brings all of the colour and light and beauty back. You can be surrounded by the same thing day in and day out, and forget the magic of it... or, you can look at it with fresh eyes every time...appreciate that you have eyes capable of seeing the world around you, ears capable of hearing the roar of thunder or of cars on the road and the soft chatter of birds on the other side of the windowpane, skin capable of feeling the soft bed beneath you or the wind rushing past you or the smoothness of your lover's skin.

People rush too much, and forget to experience the beauty around them.

That's my challenge to everyone this week. Go outside; look around, really sense the world around you

Salting of the Earth

You should know that there is something worse than hate and that is unlove.

Because hate is anger over something lost, hate is passion, hate is misguided, it's caring for the wrong things but it is still caring.

But unlove, unlove is to unkiss, to unremember, to unhold, to undream, to undo everything that ever was and leave smooth stone behind in its wake.

No fire.

No fury.

Just, nothing.

And that is worse than hate.

In this Life...

Create something to last beyond you. Plant a tree and nourish it and watch it grow. Write a piece and have it published. Build something enduring.

Permanent Vacation

How many of you have ever gone somewhere on vacation, and thought “I never want to leave,” and wished that you could simply make a new life in this place rather than returning to home, wherever that is? Everyone, I’m sure. I’ve had that thought countless times on vacation. The escape of the day-to-day troubles and stress of life easily has that effect on people.
Different from that, however, is a deeper feeling that a place could become home. Not everyone has had that experience when exploring a new locale. A feeling such as that makes leaving far more complicated. It can be brought about by a feeling of fitting in within a place, or a deep love and respect for a culture, or by knowing enough people in a city…I’m sure there are countless other ways as well.
I digress. The point of this post is that I have apparently just unintentionally stumbled into a permanent vacation.  Details behind the cut.

Blink

We waste so much time. Every week, millions of people--probably you included, definitely me--try to rush through their work days and make time go faster, and then try to hold on to each of the moments they have at home in the evening and slow time down. Weekends disappear under the weight of all we schedule, and suddenly it's Monday morning again. Repeat.

This happens each week, and months roll by before we realize what has happened. Then years.

We waste so much of our lives trying to get past the routine parts to the good stuff. The time with friends. The time with family. What should matter, but that we don't prioritize enough.

I hate that money matters so much in this world, and that everyone has to put a job first, rather than the people in their lives. We're each rushing toward old age, trying to make ends meet, and ignoring those around us.

I just wish I could change that, sometimes. It all passes by too quickly, and I know it's going to be completely gone in the blink of an eye.
